Some of you might be wondering how to go about borrowing Cut's equipment, so here's a quick guide:
What equipment can I book?
- HD Camera (Panasonic HDC-SD200 High Def SDHC Camcorder): Cut shares this camera with GUST, and our members are welcome to use it. GUST uses this camera a lot during the week, so we encourage Cut members to try to plan their film shoots around weekends as far as possible.
Anyone who wishes to make a weekday booking must pick up the equipment on Monday morning and keep it till Friday afternoon.
- Mini DV Camera (Canon XM2) This camera records to tape, so members will need to provide their own.
- SD Card (8GB High speed for HD video)
- Shotgun Mic (Rode NTG-2 with boompole and XLR-minijack cable)
- Tripod
- Light (One construction floodlight with stand)
How do I book equipment?
Just send us an email at cutfilmmaking@gmail.com, as far in advance as possible. The booking system works on a first-come-first-served basis, so get in there quickly to avoid disappointment! Please include your full name, matriculation number, email address, and mobile number, as well as telling us what equipment you need and when.
We'll get back to you to confirm your booking, and arrange to meet you to give you the equipment.
As a general rule, we prefer to hand over the equipment at 3pm on Friday afternoons, and collect the equipment at 11am on Monday mornings. However, these times are flexible!
Before we hand over the equipment, we will ask you to sign a user agreement, which states that you must follow our guidelines for responsible use of the equipment.
PLEASE NOTE: From today onwards, Cut is implementing a £5 booking fee to be paid only once a year, to cover use of any of the equipment listed above. This is a courtesy payment to help Cut invest in additional equipment to let us all make better films! This will affect any bookings made from today onwards, but not bookings that were made prior to this announcement. This fee is to be paid to Lucy at the time when the equipment is handed over.
Remember: Cut's filming equipment has been donated to us by members. Cut has very limited funds for repair, so as soon as the equipment is damaged, Cut will have to run fundraising campaigns, and the equipment will not be back in action for many months. Therefore, we strongly advise you to treat with equipment with respect, bearing in mind those who will need it in future.
