In case you haven't heard, Half Cut is the biggest student film festival in Scotland, showcasing the best of up and coming filmmaking talent. It is part of On The Rocks Scottish Student Arts Festival, and organised by Rogue Productions (the St Andrews filmmaking society). There are no restrictions on genre, and entry is open to all, making for an extremely exciting festival which culminates in a fabulous Awards Ceremony. This year is to be no exception: we have already confirmed two Pixar animators - Jaime Landes and Lindsay VanderGalien - as our judges, as well as Robert Sproul-Cran, a BAFTA award winner with 30 years experience in the filmmaking industry. Sounds glamorous, right?! They will also be giving industry talks and Q&A sessions, so there will be a chance for everyone to pick the brains of these industry professionals. This year, our Awards Evening will be held on the 20th of April, with industry talks the previous evening on the 19th.
Even if your film doesn't quite make the Awards Evening screening first time round, it will be screened nonetheless on the People's Choice evening on the 18th of April. From this, the audience will vote two films to go through to the Awards Evening and be shown to our special judging panel - it was one of the People's Choice films last year that won!
Every year, we receive loads of very different films in very different styles and genres: animations, mockumentaries, drama, zom-coms... you name it! So whatever your film idea, get on it and send it to us... you never know, you could find yourself in the limelight! If you already have a film you think will be suitable, so much the better! Or if you would just like to pop up for a visit, tickets can be found soon on the On The Rocks box office website: www.ontherocksfestival.com/box-office.html ...come join us!
The deadline for entries is Monday the 11th of April. Technical specifications, more information, where to send it to etc will be available soon on our website under the Half Cut tab: www.rogueproductions.org.uk. We are also on facebook: www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=58470596462 (or search Half Cut Film Festival).
Please spread the word! Half Cut is an exciting opportunity for any budding filmmaker, and we want to make it as big and beautiful as possible, so encourage people to find us on facebook and get filming! If you want to talk to us more, feel free to email me back, or alternatively Rogue Productions on rogue@st-andrews.ac.uk. Anyone who would be willing to help us promote Half Cut within their university would also be wonderful: again, if you are interested, please contact me on this address (gs322@st-andrews.ac.uk).
Thank you! I look forward to seeing your university's filmmaking talent soon...
